Klaye and Mollie got in on some Baker river Sockeye today! We had an awesome day fishing for Baker river sockeye. Made short work of a handfull of reds. The trick is to find a pod a fish and beat on them! We found a few just above the Dalles bridge and Mollie showed them who’s boss! She went from an inexperienced fisherwoman to a “distinguished lady angler”. Klaye was trying out a new rod and it really put the hurt to em’. The sockeye are definetley in the river!!

Keith started the day off with this 59.5 inch keeper sturgeon.

Teamed up with Keith and Dana today for some fun in the sun! Oh, and we caught some fish too! Fishing wasn’t red hot but we found a couple! Nice day under the “trippy sky” some of the strangest cloud formations I’ve ever seen. Thanks for a great day guys, lookin forward to doin it again.

Ronny’s Red Hot Chromer, best fighter of the year so far. This fish was on the bite, besides ours he had two broken off leaders in his mouth. 1 pre-tied mustad rig, and another yarnie with a vision rolling drop swivel plus pencil lead! We did this fish a favor by trimming that stuff off.

And last but definitely not least Donny’s Fatty hen!

Myself holding what I think to be my personal biggest hen ever caught 38×19.25, it might not be the biggest but it’s my favorite so far.

Meanwhile it’s been a great week to be on the Skagit. Fishing remains consistent in the upper stretches. Still a few hatchery re-brights kirking around and a few natives as well. Angler pressure is still pretty low and there are plenty of first water opportunities. The lower reaches of the river have been fishable one day and too murky the next. My friend Justin called me about ten minutes before he showed up at my house and told me I was going fishing Saturday. We hit the water about 2:00 pm, and the water wasn’t ideal. Then on the last drift before dark the water seemed to look perfect. I flipped my presentation into about two feet of water on a shallow bar and nailed the fish shown above. She put up a great fight. Then while playing the fish we drifted by a fly angler. Right in front of us he hooked up on a nice fish as well. The fly angler said the fish took a blue zonker. My fish however was on the forbidden fruit of hatchery Steelhead eggs behind a Chartreuse corky. The storm yesterday blew the river out and it raised up quite a bit. If we get a dry day with some cool weather it shouldn’t take long to recede. We still have a couple open days in February, and several in April. I’m not sure what the State is worried about, there seems to be plenty of fish in the river.

We had a great time today…even when the other guys were sticking their boats on the trailer, we stuck it out. Believe me it was ugly up there. But if you catch fish on the ugly days, it just makes the sunny days that much better! Thanks again guys!
